Futon is a flat, and thick mattress with a fabric exterior stuffed with cotton or synthetic batting that is used Japanese for making beds. Shikibuton is what the Japanese called it. It meant mattress. We Americans have taken it one step further and enhanced the definition to include both the mattress as well as the furniture that it is placed upon. Yes, it is the new age convenient form of bedding that has taken America by storm. It is flexible. It is chic. But more importantly, it is di rigueur.
The futon rage is said to have started sometime in the 70’s. Once, futons were only found in Japan, but today, they are available almost everywhere. We do not know when and how it all started. .All that we know is that we are an intrinsic part of its evolution
Futon provides a flexible range of options. It can be a decorative and stylish sofa or armchair made of hardwoods in traditional furniture styles, or it can be a utility piece folded into a couch during the day and converted into a bed at night.
